Relationship to Apple’s and Google’s terms

Chronaut is distributed exclusively through Apple’s App Store (iPhone, iPad, Mac) and through Google Play (Android). Which store terms additionally apply depends on where you got the app.

iPhone, iPad and Mac (App Store). Obtaining the app and making in-app purchases are governed by Apple’s terms, in particular the Standard End User License Agreement for Licensed Applications. These Terms of Use supplement that agreement and do not replace it. Where the two conflict, Apple’s agreement prevails.

Android (Google Play). Obtaining the app through Google Play and any later purchases through Google Play are governed by the Google Play Terms of Service. These Terms of Use apply alongside them to the use of the Android app.

What Chronaut does

With your permission, Chronaut reads the calendars on your device, keeps a history of the events in its own database on the device, shows you what was deleted, changed or moved, and restores events when you ask it to. All data stays on your device; there is no server operated by us. See the privacy policy for details.

Licence

You receive a simple, non-transferable right to use Chronaut for your own purposes — on iPhone, iPad and Mac on the devices associated with your Apple Account, on Android on the devices on which you install the app through Google Play. Reverse engineering, modifying or redistributing the app, and circumventing the purchase check, are not permitted unless the law expressly allows such acts.

Free version and full version

iPhone, iPad and Mac. Backing up runs in full in the free version. The full version is offered as a one-time in-app purchase and unlocks the display of details, the complete comparison, search and restoring. The purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac together and can be shared through Apple Family Sharing. Purchase, payment, invoicing and refunds are handled by Apple, so Apple is responsible for refunds.

Android. Backing up runs in full in the free version. The full version is offered as a one-time in-app purchase through Google Play and unlocks the same features. The purchase covers the Android devices signed in with the same Google Account. Purchase, payment and invoicing run through your Google Account, and the Google Play terms apply. Refunds follow Google Play’s refund policies and are handled by Google.

Purchases in the App Store and purchases on Google Play are independent of each other; a purchase on one platform does not unlock anything on the other.

Which features belong to which version is listed on chronaut.app. We may develop the feature set of future versions further; we will not take away features you have already bought.

What a backup can do — and what it cannot

Chronaut is a safety net, not a replacement for a full backup of your device. Please note:

  • Chronaut can only capture what is visible on the device at the moment a backup runs. If an event is created and deleted again before the next run, it may be missing.
  • When a background backup runs is decided by the operating system. Chronaut can request it, but cannot force it.
  • If you revoke calendar access or uninstall the app, backing up ends; uninstalling makes the system delete the history.
  • When restoring, Chronaut restores the title, times, location, notes, recurrence rules and alarms. Attendees are not written back as attendees (on iPhone, iPad and Mac Apple’s interface does not allow it); they are added as text to the event’s notes, and no invitations are sent again.
  • On Android, the history lives only on the device and is excluded from Android backup. It is lost when you switch devices, reset the device or uninstall the app.
  • Calendars your device may only read — subscribed calendars, holidays, birthdays — cannot be written to and therefore cannot be restored.

So please also back up important data by other means.

Liability

We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence as well as for injury to life, body or health. In cases of simple negligence we are liable only for the breach of a material contractual obligation and limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this type of contract. Any further liability, in particular for lost or uncaptured calendar data, is excluded. Statutory warranty rights remain unaffected; these terms do not restrict mandatory statutory claims.

Changes to these terms

We adapt these terms when the app, the features offered or the legal situation change. The version published here applies.

Governing law

German law applies. If you are a consumer resident in the EU, the mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence remain unaffected.
